Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs) have a main rotor shaft and electrical generator at the top of a tower, with blades positioned horizontally. This design allows the blades to capture maximum wind energy, making HAWTs highly efficient. They are commonly used in both onshore and offshore wind farms. The turbines need to be pointed into the wind, which is usually achieved with a yaw mechanism. HAWTs typically have three blades made of lightweight, durable materials. They are known for their high energy output and are the most widely used type of wind turbine globally.
